Ethics and good editorial practices policy
The journal Kapitari, in keeping with its academic, social, and scientific purpose, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality, integrity, transparency, and ethical responsibility in all editorial processes and in the content it publishes.
Within this framework, Kapitari adopts and adheres to the ethical principles and best practices promulgated by:
- Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
- Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK) de Elsevier
- The Singapore Statement on Research Integrity
Based on these guidelines, the journal establishes the ethical, social, and professional requirements that must be observed by authors, reviewers, editors, and other stakeholders in the editorial process, in order to guarantee the integrity of scientific communication.
Journal Commitments
Kapitari is committed to:
- Using technological tools for plagiarism and similarity detection to prevent improper practices and guarantee the originality of manuscripts.
- Basing all editorial decisions exclusively on academic and scientific criteria, without discrimination based on nationality, gender, sexual orientation, political affiliation, ethnicity, creed, social status, or any other expression of human diversity.
- Selecting peer reviewers with the appropriate qualifications, experience, and academic background in the subject area of the manuscript, based on criteria of impartiality, confidentiality, and transparency.
- Guaranteeing adherence to the double-blind peer review system throughout the entire editorial process.
- Applying a clear and consistent editorial policy that allows for a rigorous initial review and decisions based on criteria of originality, relevance, methodological rigor, and scientific contribution.
- Respecting and enforcing ethical standards, intellectual property rights, and copyright laws, as well as the journal's editorial philosophy.
- Maintaining effective, respectful, and confidential communication channels with authors, reviewers, and members of the editorial committees.
- Editing, publishing, reproducing, and disseminating articles in accordance with the principles of open access, under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license.
- Diligently addressing, processing, and resolving any conflicts, controversies, or ethical complaints that arise within the editorial process.
- Convening, consulting, and following the guidance of the Editorial Committee and the Scientific Committee when necessary.
Commitments of the authors
Authors who submit manuscripts to Kapitari commit to:
- Adhere to the guidelines, policies, and editorial standards established by the journal, as well as international best practices in scientific publishing.
- Submit original, unpublished articles authored by you, and refrain from submitting the manuscript simultaneously to other journals while it is under review.
- Complete all forms and documents required by the journal fully, truthfully, and responsibly.
- Avoid any form of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, manipulation, or misrepresentation of data. All sources used, whether your own or from others, must be properly cited according to current standards.
- Acknowledge the real and effective participation of all individuals who meet the authorship criteria, and obtain the approval of the institutions, communities involved, and funding entities when applicable.
- Accept that published articles will be distributed under a CC BY 4.0 license, which allows for their reuse, even for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors and the journal.
- Explicitly declare any conflicts of interest and the funding sources associated with the research.
Commitments of reviewers
Kapitari peer reviewers commit to:
- Adhere to the journal's editorial guidelines, policies, and standards, as well as the ethical principles of scientific evaluation.
- Accept only evaluation processes that correspond to your academic, research, or professional expertise.
- Provide well-founded, objective, respectful, and rigorous feedback aimed at improving the manuscripts and strengthening the scientific culture.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of the evaluated manuscripts and refrain from reproducing, distributing, or disseminating their content before publication.
- Inform the Editor promptly of any indication of plagiarism, conflict of interest, or inappropriate ethical conduct.
- Avoid obtaining personal, academic, or financial benefits from the content of the evaluated texts.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Kapitari considers a conflict of interest to exist, among other possible scenarios, when:
- Authors, reviewers, or editors have worked at the same institution within the last three years.
- There are economic, financial, or commercial interests related to the manuscript.
- Joint research projects or publications have been undertaken within the last three years.
- Close family, personal, or academic ties exist within the last three years.
In these cases, authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose the situation in writing to the Editor-in-Chief, who will take the appropriate editorial measures. Invited reviewers must recuse themselves from evaluating a manuscript when a conflict of interest exists.
Kapitari guarantees the selection of suitable reviewers, also in terms of thematic compatibility and the absence of conflicts of interest.
Handling Research Misconduct
In the event of allegations or evidence of research misconduct, Kapitari will act in accordance with COPE guidelines, taking the necessary measures to:
- Prevent the publication of articles containing misconduct.
- Publish corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary.
- Safeguard the integrity of the scientific record.
Under no circumstances will the journal encourage, tolerate, or conceal practices contrary to scientific ethics.
Funding Statement
Authors must explicitly declare:
- The sources of funding for the research and/or the preparation of the manuscript.
- The role played by the funders in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation of the data, writing of the article, or the decision to submit it for publication.
If there was no external funding, this must be explicitly stated.
