Crossmark Policy

The journal Kapitari is committed to maintaining high standards of quality, integrity, and transparency in all its scientific publications. Within this framework, the journal adopts the Crossmark tool, an initiative developed by Crossref, in order to offer readers a clear and reliable mechanism for identifying the official and most up-to-date version of published content.

Crossmark allows readers to ascertain the status of a scholarly article and verify whether the content has been updated, corrected, or retracted since its original publication. This functionality reflects the understanding that scientific research is a dynamic process that may require adjustments, clarifications, or corrections over time.

Crossmark Functionality

The Crossmark button is integrated as a standard feature in the PDF files and viewing platforms of articles published by Kapitari. With a single click, readers can:

  • Verify that the document is the current version.
  • Find out if the article has been subject to corrections, updates, or retractions.
  • Access additional metadata provided by the journal, such as:
    • Key dates in the editorial process (submission, review, acceptance, and publication).
    • ORCID identifiers of the authors.
    • Content type.
    • Licensing information.
    • Details of the peer review process.
    • Information on funding and data availability, where applicable.

Types of Updates

For Crossmark purposes, Kapitari recognizes two categories of changes to published content:

Minor Changes

These include formal corrections that do not affect the substantive content of the article, such as typographical errors, formatting adjustments, or spelling corrections. When these changes do not alter the interpretation of the results or the authorship of the work, the Crossmark status remains current.

Major Changes

These correspond to modifications that significantly affect the content or integrity of the article, such as:

  • Substantial corrections that influence the interpretation of the results.
  • Addition or removal of authors.
  • Partial or total retractions due to errors, ethical issues, or misconduct.

In these cases, the article's Crossmark status is updated to alert readers. As a best editorial practice, Kapitari will publish the corresponding correction or retraction notices as separate documents, with their own DOI and without access restrictions, guaranteeing the transparency of the process.

Editorial Commitment

By implementing Crossmark, Kapitari reaffirms its commitment to:

  • The traceability of scientific content.
  • The trust of readers, authors, and reviewers.
  • The clear communication of any relevant changes in the published literature.

This policy is aligned with the editorial practices and guidelines of the publisher CIENCIA S.A.S., contributing to the consolidation of an ethical, transparent, and sustainable publishing ecosystem.
